Strongest, weakest teams by SC points scored and conceded

We all know that doubles are a key strategy for climbing the ranks in BBL SuperCoach, but what other tactics can we use to our advantage?



Much like other formats of the game, looking at the draw is critical to uncovering which clubs and players might be about to go on a run as well as guide how heavy you should be leaning into one club during a DGW.



To help in uncovering who has the best draw, and which clubs doubles are best to lean into, we have run the numbers on which BBL clubs are scoring AND conceding the most SuperCoach points on average this season to-date.



While some of the results mirrored our expectations and the ladder, the numbers do show a surprising trend for some clubs who are giving up more points than expected.



To obtain these results, we tracked total team SC scores both for and against for every round to-date.

Top Three Highest Scoring Clubs:



<ul><li>1st: Perth Scorchers, 520 points per match</li><li>2nd: Sydney Sixers, 507 points per match</li><li>3rd: Brisbane Heat, 455 points per match</li></ul>



Bottom 3 Lowest Scoring Clubs:



<ul><li>1st: Melbourne Renegades, 383 points per match</li><li>2nd: Melbourne Stars, 390 points per match</li><li>3rd: Adelaide Strikers, 415 points per match</li></ul>



Top 4 Highest Conceding Clubs:

What this tells us:



<ul><li>Far and away, the best two clubs for scoring are the Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, who are also at the top of the BBL table. Picking the right players from these clubs is a great tactic to climb the rankings, as seen by those who went early on the Scorchers ahead of their DGW with Marsh, Agar and Tye owners all rewarded.</li><li>The Scorchers and Sixers are also extremely difficult match-ups for players from other clubs. They’re keeping competitors to lower than average SuperCoach totals.</li><li>The Renegades are scoring poorly and conceding the most points per average. They’re a difficult club to own players from and a great match-up for any of the players you own.</li><li>The Melbourne Stars are, surprisingly, very poor statistically in both points conceded and points scored. The numbers are skewed slightly given they conceded the highest score of the season in round 1, and scored the lowest too, but despite their big names, they’ve underwhelmed. They’re a good match-up for your players.</li><li>Match-ups against the Renegades, Heat, Stars or Strikers should be considered favourable for any players you own.</li></ul>

Some other trends:



<ul><li>The highest scoring combined total of the season so far has been the round 6 Stars vs Heat match-up. This game ticked two boxes with both a high score (more runs and SR bonuses) as well as 15 wickets being taken.</li><li>The highest individual team score was the Sixers 682 points against the Melbourne Stars in round 1. This combined both high runs scored and the Sixers bowling out the Stars. This ensured maximum wicket points, economy rate bonuses for bowlers and SR bonus for batters.</li><li>Only two matches so far have seen both teams fail to reach 400 total points. This was the Stars vs Thunder round 2, and Strikers vs Hurricanes in round 6. This was in spite of Ben McDermott scoring 175 points individually. The common trend is a low amount of wickets falling, with the Stars vs Thunder seeing only 9 wickets combined and Strikers vs Hurricanes only 8. </li><li>More total wickets in a match has a huge correlation to high scores, as seen by the Scorchers who have the most team wickets this year.</li><li>The highest scoring DGW to-date was the Sixers in round 1 with 1,201 points combined. Second best is the Scorchers with 987. The Scorchers, having been consistently good, are an attractive team to load up on for their DGW.</li><li>The lowest scoring teams on the DGW were the Strikers with 824 points and Stars 768 points combined. Both clubs have another DGW approaching but may be worth approaching with caution.</li></ul>

How you might use this data:



<ul><li>Seeing the Stars as an average scoring team may make avoiding going hard on their DGW a viable option. They play the worst and best clubs in the Renegades and Scorchers, meaning despite the chance to score well in the first match, they may struggle in the second game.</li><li>From rounds 9 &#8211; 12, the Stars have the best run with no doubles but games against the Strikers (twice), Renegades and Heat. Buying into the club at this time, especially the bowling attack, could pay off.</li><li>The Sixers are amidst a good run with the Heat in round 6, followed by the Renegades and Heat again. Buying into their bowling attack could pay off, albeit with the caveat they play the Scorchers in back-to-back match-ups in rounds 9 and 10. They also play the Renegades and Strikers in two of their final three games.</li><li>Despite having the bye in round 8, Hobart have an advantageous draw with round 7 against the Heat, followed by the Strikers and another DGW featuring the Heat and Thunder. If possible, holding post round 6 could pay dividends.</li></ul>



So in summary, we are all always looking for an edge in SuperCoach, and while data isn’t always a perfect predictor of future outcomes, hopefully it may help if you’re ever on the fence about the best calls to make for your team.
