Final Word: Round 10 skippers, tactics, weather

While I thought the round prior was the most chaotic I’d seen, Round 9 may well have topped it.



More postponed games, including the Strikers and Heat who were on the all-important double, made for a terribly difficult week to navigate.



SuperCoach BBL is a game you have to always be on your toes for, and this season has taken that to another level.



Monitoring changes as late as possible is as important as ever, so we just have to do our best.



It’s imperative that we don’t make trades until the last minute to allow us to adapt to any late news around players and fixtures.

Hopefully things settle down for the remainder of the season and we can finish in peace.



The SuperCoach Gods have gifted us five trades for the remaining rounds, so we should be able to handle any changes.



The Cooma Stallions have hit their straps of late with a Round 9 score of 720 points sending us into 230th in the overall rankings.



Let’s see if that charge can continue as we look ahead to Round 10.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">LOOKING AHEAD</h2>



We now have confirmation of the new fixtures dates and hence SuperCoach BBL round structures.



Round 10 will see no team on the bye, and the Thunder and Hurricanes on the double.



Originally the Scorchers had the Round 11 bye, but this isn&#8217;t to be anymore.



Round 11 will see the Renegades and Stars on the double game week.



Round 12 will see the Strikers and Stars on the double.



Basically, if you can avoid selling any Stars players it&#8217;s recommended.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SUPER PODS</h2>



Each week one of our contributors will provide a full analysis on the point of difference (POD) players to consider.



In the Final Word, we’ll look at the super POD options, the players at under 5% ownership (or around about) that could send you soaring (or falling) up the overall ranks.



They come with big risk, but the reward is immense if it comes off.



Last week,&nbsp;Nathan Coulter-Nile’s game was cancelled, while Wes Agar produced a respectable 38 points but unfortunately had the second game of the Strikers double abandoned.



NCN remains a terrific super POD and the extended spell should do wonders for any niggling injuries and hence chances of being rested.

Shaun Marsh – 3.6% ownership



An easy super POD choice this week, and one that’ll last one round max.



Marsh just played his first game of the tournament, blasting 57 runs off 35 balls in a man-of-the-match performance, albeit against a very under-strength Heat outfit.



The Renegades have the double in Round 11, so coaches will flock to him, but there may be an opportunity to get him at low-ownership for the upcoming round where he can deliver again.



He has a breakeven of -9 so he’ll make money regardless, and the Renegades play in the first game of the round, so he’s a terrific auto-emergency loop opportunity.



With five trades to utilise I’ll be going early on him.

After border restrictions ruled him ineligible for the Sixers’ recent Queensland trip, he’ll play in Round 10 in Coffs Harbour.



An all-rounder, in a gun team, with added responsibility with key players out, he could be anything!



Further, the Sixers have a double game week looming at some stage.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SKIPPERS</h2>



On the double, the Thunder play in the opening game of the round, so your vice-captain should come from that side.



Also doubling up, the Hurricanes play in the second game and should therefore provide your choice of captain.



With guns galore in both sides, we aren’t short of options.



The obvious pick for the Thunder will be Daniel Sams who despite having a relatively underwhelming season by his standards, still averages 56.3 SuperCoach points.



He’s about as safe as a skipper can get, with just one score under 30 this season, and top scores of 107, 99 and 94.

He has one of the highest ceilings in SuperCoach and makes sense for your VC, but like last round with people avoiding Rashid Khan, there’s anti-POD opportunity elsewhere.



For the bold, Alex Hales is an option, however he’s looked out of touch this season and is high-risk. Playing in the first game with the Hurricanes playing second alleviates some risk.



In supreme form, Matt Gilkes is also an option and he should take the gloves with Sam Billings departing to England.



I prefer Tanveer Sangha who can be rocks or diamonds with his SuperCoach scoring, but has a fairly high ceiling and is a class cricketer.



He’s missed recent games due to COVID but is expected to be available for the double.



He’s averaging 43.2 this season which isn’t great, but he does have high scores of 88 and 81.

He did back those up with scores of 4 and 5. One of those games he bowled just two overs due to rain.



At the Hurricanes, Ben McDermott must be considered following his unbelievable dual centuries in the Hurricanes last double game week.



He’s not troubled the scorers too much since, but the bloke is absolute class and plays at the Gabba and Launceston where he could score a motza.



There’s risk in the fact that two failures with the bat would be lethal, but he’s hard to go past.



I have as much trust in him delivering in at least one of two knocks as I do anyone in the competition.



D’Arcy Short is the other option. He doesn’t look good at all and I don’t have trust in him, however his role is hard to beat.



He has been demoted to three or four in the batting order, but I don’t mind this for him.



While overs are never guaranteed (he didn’t bowl two starts back), he generally gets anywhere from 1-4 overs which is so vital to his scoring and SuperCoach reliability.



At this stage I’m happy to play fairly safe with Sams VC and McDermott C. A touch boring, but sometimes boring is the best option.
