NFL Supercoach | The Blitz, everything you need to know Week 5

We are now officially a month into the NFL season, and you can’t help but feel like it is all going too fast.

From a Supercoach perspective, it was another rollercoaster week, with some monster performances, some more disappointing, and of course, a fair share of injuries sprinkled in there.

This week also marks the beginning of bye weeks, just another obstacle for Supercoach managers to navigate their way through…

Week 4 Talking Points

Can we just scrap the Tight End position from Supercoach?

It has become a weekly entry into my talking points section at this point: the struggles of picking the right TEs for our Supercoach sides.

Kincaid’s 2 and Sadiq’s 0 were the latest additions to this TE disaster.

As managers flock to Brock Bowers, let’s just pray the curse doesn’t follow.

There is no way I am going to be sitting here next week writing about a Bowers’ single-digit performance…right?

Embed from Getty Images

Can we please turn injuries off?

I will leave it to the injury report section below to talk about each injury individually, but boy, was it another bad week.

Superstar names including Ja’Marr Chase, Lamar Jackson, and Saquon Barkley all found themselves in injury strife.

Hopefully these injuries slow down, because at this rate no one will be healthy come week 17.

Feed the alpha WR1s

31 catches, 375 yards, and 3 touchdowns. Those are the numbers that Tetairoa McMillan and CeeDee Lamb combined for this week.

Just absolutely ridiculous numbers from absolutely ridiculous athletes.

Both offences played with the mindset that they would keep throwing it to their main man until the defence could stop it (hint: the defences never figured out how to stop it).

In theory, it makes sense. If this becomes a trend that continues this year, these alpha WR1s are going to become all the more valuable.

Availability Watch

In this section, I will give the latest injury and suspension updates, focusing on the more Supercoach-relevant players.

Week 5 Fixtures

Week 5 is all about the NFC West, with a divisional showdown between the 49ers and Seahawks set to be a blockbuster, as well as a prime-time clash between the Rams and Bills.

From a Supercoach perspective, there are a few matchups to potentially target…

The week starts with the Cowboys coming up against a winless Bucs side, in what could be a beatdown.

The Texans will be DESPERATE to record their first win of the season against the Titans, while the Lions will be desperate to bounce back vs the Cardinals.

Embed from Getty Images

Breakevens

Breakevens are the score required for the player to either make money or lose money.

Generally, when looking at who to trade in, heavily consider the players with low breakevens, as they are likely to rise in price.

Similarly, if you have players with high breakevens in your team, it could be time to consider cutting ties to ensure your team doesn’t lose too much value.

My Trades

Week 4 was another ‘meh’ week for ‘Will Fries Bag’, as we managed just 483 points, but climbed up 320 ranks.

An underwhelming captaincy on Gibbs, injuries to Lamar and Chase, as well as another stinker at tight end, stopped it from being a great week.

I have had a look at my team and the trades I want to make, but I am yet to figure out what exactly I am going to do, as I can’t afford any slam-dunk trade moves.

What I do know is that I need Brock Bowers, and that it may have to come at the expense of Kincaid.

Kincaid started the year so hot, and I was so high on him, but since bringing him in, he has managed a whopping 7 points in 2 weeks to sit with a break-even of 52.

I think he bounces back and still averages in the mid-20s, but the fact is I need Bowers, and I need the money from Kincaid to make that move.

Embed from Getty Images

I already hyped up Bowers last week, and he came up and proved himself once again with 6 catches for 86 yards, a touchdown, and 35 Supercoach points to go with it.

25 targets in 2 weeks, including 4 red zone targets. The Raiders’ offence under Kubiak is rolling, and Bowers is flying.

The only concern is obviously his health with the persistent knee injury, but hopefully that is a non-issue.

Outside of that, I am still pretty clueless on trades for this week, and it will probably come down to the injury report on Lamar.

Embed from Getty Images

If Lamar is out, I will have to trade him out, but who to is the question.

If I could afford it, I actually have Dak Prescott as my number one Lamar replacement.

Dak has been balling to start the season, and his Supercoach average of 40.3 does not reflect how well he is playing.

In the last 3 weeks, he has thrown for over 275 yards in each, and if it wasn’t for just his 2 passing touchdowns in the last fortnight, he would be averaging 50+.

The Dallas defence is poor once again, so expect Dak to keep slinging the rock and flourishing in these high-scoring game scripts.

At just 2% ownership and with a favourable upcoming schedule, I love the super-pod play.

Embed from Getty Images

Unfortunately, I can not afford Dak while also getting Bowers, so instead I am looking toward Kirk Cousins.

Cousins has been balling under Kubiak, with a season-low of 31 and a 3-week average of 44.

He is a viable short-term option at a discounted price, and should make some decent cash with a breakeven of 3.

My other option is to do something I have never done in Supercoach before, and not run at QB at flex in the short term.

Instead, I could look at a Nico Collins or Drake London type who I see as season keepers at WR, and red-hot trade-ins this week.

I will keep you guys posted in the subscriber Discord on what I end up going with!

My Captains

I think Josh Allen is a relatively straightforward captaincy selection for most this week, coming up against the Rams in what seems destined to be a shootout.

The VC armband is where it gets interesting this week, and I think there are plenty of enticing options.

I am leaning towards Gibbs vs the Cardinals in what should be a get-right game for the Lions offence.
